Alaska is located to the very north of North America and borders Canada to the
east and Russia to the west. It happens to have the largest state land mass at 570,380 square miles.
It was purchased from Russia in 1867. Alaska became the 49th state in 1959. More than 80% of the states
revenue comes from the oil industry. Most of the jobs come from government and extracting natural resources,
shipping, and transportation. The cost of living in Alaska is still one of the highest in the United States.
